| 2005 is an important marker for human development in many fields but
particularly for art. The cause for excitement is fueled in part by the
100 anniversary of Albert Einstein's special relativity and the contributions by
Hermann Minkowski, Ammy Noether and many others to this milestone. Their combined work
ushered the fundamental transformation of our conception of the universe and the
further understanding of the laws that mediate the process of existence.
The fundamental change was that our static universe of old was integrated
into an expanding and dynamic universe, a four dimensional object or space-time.
these concepts are complex but their underlying symmetry is accessible when we
look for it and is wonderfully simple once we find their expression in the the
natural world.
For art, the last century was was a period of frenetic expansion towards the
attainment of complete liberation of the art object to the outer reaches of
conceptual space, somewhat similar to the frenetic expansion of the nuclear
objective to liberate the atom.
Once again the laws of nature come to bear in the final analysis, as for
every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Art and humanity in the
twenty first century will have to deal with the fall-out, benefit and
consequences of these liberating campaigns.
The following works are about a new synthesis concerning human consciousness
operating at a four dimensional level, that is to say that ideas no longer need
to be static fixtures in our minds but like the expanding dynamic universe,
ideas can also be objects in motion flowing in space-time and reality an ever
changing but accessible part of the human experience.
